Development for Palmerston Netballers
Palmerston Netball Association began two unique development programs in 2020, introducing our Green Shirt officiating program and our PNA Paladins Academy development program. With support from Netball NT, our two head coaches undertook NTIS scholarships in their respective fields, learning and developing themselves as leaders in the netball community. We are proud of the successes had in our inaugural year and equally proud to continue providing quality opportunities to today’s PNA community.
PNA is proud to provide the first officiating program of its kind in the Top End, and is acknowledged by other states as trailblazers for umpire development programs. The current Green Shirt program continues to grow with participants ranging from those just starting their umpire journey, as well as umpires progressing their national accreditation. Through regular workshops and weekly coaching, PNA is proud to see our officials develop and grow, including some advancing to Representative officiating. New applicants are sought prior to the start of each season and although places are limited, keen umpires over the age of 13 is encouraged to apply.
Paladins were once great knights who championed a cause. Today’s PNA Paladins are likewise champions of a cause, with our cause being to develop and support junior athletes become the stars of tomorrow. Expanding in 2021 to a two-stage program, the Paladins Academy offers a range of activities for athletes aged 11-17 years, targeting personal growth both on and off the court. Supported by Netball NT and industry experts, PNA Paladins are exposed to diverse challenges and learning experiences that guide them towards representative netball opportunities.
Running near year-round, the PNA Paladins Academy also supports Coach development, recognising that Coach pathways as just as important as pathways for athletes. PNA is proud of our program successes, with both Coach and athlete selected as NT representatives for the National Netball Championships.
The PNA Paladins Academy invites Expressions of Interest twice a year with athletes from all PNA-affiliated clubs encouraged to apply. Coaches are welcome to discuss the opportunity with PNA any time.
